Miami, FL - A new form of transportation is arriving in South Florida as Waymo begins testing its fleet of fully autonomous electric Jaguars on the streets of Miami.

The self-driving vehicles, which operate without a human driver, are part of the company’s expanding effort to introduce driverless ride services across major U.S. cities.

According to Waymo, the service is currently limited to company employees but will open to the public sometime next year.

The vehicles are summoned through an app similar to other ride-hailing platforms.

Once a car arrives, passengers receive a short safety briefing before pressing a button inside to begin their ride.

From there, the system handles all driving functions, including navigation, lane changes, and stops, using advanced sensors, cameras, GPS, and artificial intelligence.

The autonomous vehicles operate only on local streets for now and do not enter highways.

Miami marks the latest city in Waymo’s national expansion following successful launches in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco.

Residents who have used the service in other cities say the rides feel stable and efficient.

Waymo officials said the Miami rollout follows months of testing and regulatory coordination to ensure the system’s safety and reliability on Florida roads.

The company’s vehicles, easily recognized by their white exteriors and roof-mounted sensors, represent a step toward fully automated public transportation as Waymo continues its push to expand across the state.
