The City of Lake Worth Beach plans to demolish one of its water towers next week.
The tower sitting on the corner of 22nd Avenue North and North D Street was built in 1946 and hasn't been used since the summer of 2023, but some residents say it's been used for navigation for years.
However, city officials cite safety concerns for the decision to tear it down. Water Plant Manager Garry Baker says corrosion is the biggest issue with fears that pieces could fall of and onto somebody.
Demolition is set for next Monday and road closures can be expected.
The other water tower near sixth avenue, which is painted to look like a beach ball, will remain in use.
