Governor Ron DeSantis announced he's appointing Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to become a U.S. Senator.
Moody will join the Senate after Rubio resigns to become Secretary of State.
She was first elected as Florida Attorney General in 2019.
She is expected to run for the seat again in 2026 and at 49 years old, she could become a key player in Florida’s and the nation’s future for years to come.
Moody will have to run against Florida Rep. Corey Mills in a 2026 special election to keep the seat for the final two years of Rubio's term.
DeSantis said we need a senator who understands the importance of appointing Supreme Court justices and the fight against illegal immigration. He believes Moody is the perfect fit.
